The Patrol Division of the Artesia Police Department is the largest and most visible division of the agency. Officers assigned to Patrol are the city’s first line of defense, providing safety and security to the citizens of Artesia.
The Patrol Division works around the clock (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) providing trained officers that are capable of responding to any and all emergency and non-emergency calls, including:
- Calls for service
- Maintaining a police presence to help deter crime
- Crimes in progress
- Preliminary investigation of criminal activity
- Traffic enforcement and investigation of traffic accidents
- Maintaining public order
- Identifying hazards and community concerns
- Making arrests for criminal and traffic offenses, when applicable
- Building relationships within the community
The Patrol Division is under the command of Larry Horrell. He oversees four rotating shifts of officers who provide seamless coverage. Each rotating shift is supervised by a Sergeant.
