Patrol

The Patrol Division of the Artesia Police Department is the largest and most visible division of the agency. Officers assigned to Patrol are the city's first line of defense, providing safety and security to the citizens of Artesia.

The Patrol Division works around the clock (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) providing trained officers that are capable of responding to any and all emergency and non-emergency calls, including:

  • Calls for service
  • Maintaining a police presence to help deter crime
  • Crimes in progress
  • Preliminary investigation of criminal activity
  • Traffic enforcement and investigation of traffic accidents
  • Maintaining public order
  • Identifying hazards and community concerns
  • Making arrests for criminal and traffic offenses, when applicable
  • Building relationships within the community

The Patrol Division is under the command of Pete J. Quinones. Commander Quinones has been with the department for over 14 years. He's a former graduate of Artesia High School and New Mexico State University. He oversees four rotating shifts of officers who provide seamless coverage. Each rotating shift is supervised by a Sergeant.

Patrol's Mission Statement

"Being a police officer is a lot more than just issuing a ticket, making an arrest, taking a report or simply driving around; it means working with our community to prevent crime, proactively address traffic concerns with strong traffic enforcement and solve community problems with high quality investigations.

We will never let fear, pride, or ego, dictate our decisions. We will provide high quality police services to all our residents and visitors through integrity, compassion, and a commitment to innovation. Respect everyone, everywhere; whether we are working with a citizen, victim, a fellow officer, witness or suspect; respect knows no boundaries.

Patrol is the backbone of any police department because of all that we do. If it was easy, anyone would do it. Remember, it is not just a job, it is a calling to be a public servant."
